Support and Donate

We will always have STEM with us. Some things will drop out of the public eye and will go away, but there will always be science, engineering, and technology. And there will always, always be mathematics. Katherine Johnson

What will your donation support?

Start-up funding is needed to restore the East Lyme High School Planetarium facility. The cost of a state-of-the-art planetarium projector, the most essential equipment in the restoration, is $35,000. This mid-range system will replace the obsolete unit that was removed in 2013. As of March 2021, approximately one-third of the necessary funds for this device have been raised. The newest in planetarium portable-projection technology includes all the hardware and software needed to produce compelling full dome presentations. This new system is designed for usability and maximum portability at 1/6th of the price of stationary units produced only 4 years ago.

STARS to STEM, Inc. has developed a comprehensive business plan that outlines five years of budgetary needs. Additional start-up costs include the following:

  • programs and licenses,

  • full surround sound audio system,

  • essential electrical and facility upgrades,

  • furniture, and

  • administrative essentials.

Our goal is to raise sufficient funds for start-up by June 1, 2021. This is to ensure that the facility is up and running for October 1, 2021. Ongoing fundraising is needed to sustain the programming and to continue adding new programs and events. In our first year of operating the planetarium, funding will also support staff and other necessary expenses.

Launch to the projector - on our way!

We launched our official fundraising efforts at a gala event held on June 19, 2019. Our first goal is raising the funds to purchase the projector.
